Try Decreasing the Greenhouse Gases of your Vacation by Travelling by Rail

    July 15th, 2008

Trains are something that people think as uncomplicated and mega quick to travel on, there’s no trouble checking in, having to wait to find your holdall and going through long security checks when you are trying to get to Venice. It is simply marvellous. So you simply go to the train station, step onto your train platform and then you’re travelling.

Trains are also comparatively green friendly varieties of public transport. This is because public transport can travel big levels of customers at any one time. By travelling so many travellers compared to the same number of motorbikes it would need to transport them all, the co2 emissions is significantly smaller as a whole. Public transport is tremendous compared to cars.

It is regularly going to be necessary to travel from home to work by whatever means are probable and if this means using public transport for the reason that it has a lower carbon emission than a plane, then this is a good choice to pick, some may say its a wonderful choice. So it is likely to go on a vacation by rail and still be co2 friendly. At the moment it is possible to go by train to most places in the world including Madrid. Discover eco travel with Breaks by Train.

So if you yourself want to keep your carbon gases to a minimum, there’s no contest, going by train is super compared to by car. Going by rail is a pretty eco-friendly method of transport, and it is very easy to stay safe on a public train if rail travellers use common sense. The next time you wish to go on holiday, see if you can use a train or another kind of transportation to reduce and cut down on transport gases. Independent fact finding has found that jetting between Edinburgh, Paris and Belgium creates over twelve times more pollution than transporting by Euro star, assuredly this is reason enough to go by train, when clients can.

Using the public transport for sightseeing trips is a fantastic way to try reducing your CO2, and rail travellers may wish to bring that same forward thinking towards your morning and evening commute to your place of work. Although travelling by train has became more preferred in the last 4 years, there is however a vast % of customers that take their car to the office.

    C. Cheng Interviews Dr. Arrizza On The Issue of Procrastination

    July 14th, 2008

    1. From your own view, what is procrastination?

Procrastination is a form of emotional, mental and behavioral inertia. From physics the word “inertia” represents the tendency for an object to remain at rest or resist being moved. Procrastination is the inertia an individual experiences when they need to accomplish a given task. It can manifest as an inability to think about the task clearly, the inability to summon up any desire to undertake the task and an inability to actually accomplish the task physically.

Another way of putting it is that the individual feels they must put more energy into doing something than they are willing to put into it, hence it doesn’t get done. As a result there is a sort of energy threshold that must be overcome by the individual.

In cases (Case (A)) of procrastination often the task has to do with something that the individual themselves really, in their heart of hearts, doesn’t want to do themselves rather which is being expected or imposed by others. More commonly (Case (B)) it is a resistance to doing something that they truly want themselves to achieve. I will label theses two as separate cases (A) and (B) respectively.

    2. What do you think the (main) factors that cause it are? How?

In Case (A) the main factors causing procrastination result from the unwillingness of the individual to do something that is not desired by them internally. Hence the procrastination is a way of the individual attempting to assert control over a situation in the only way they can. It is very much like saying to the “powers that be” “No I Don’t Want To Do This”.

In Case (B) this situation is somewhat more complex. When an individual is unable to muster up the energy to do something they really want for themselves it’s often because they are being undermined by some sort of fear that they are carrying within themselves. For instance the fear of making a mistake, the fear of failing, the fear of being disappointed, the fear of being criticized or judged, the fear of success and so on. These fears essentially undermine the individual’s confidence, their self esteem, and their self worth, depletes their energy and makes them feel so inadequate and unable to be in charge of their life that they essentially give up trying. This is a very serious situation if it persists for too long because then it can become a “way of life” that is it can become habitual and as you know some habits are hard to break when they have persisted for too long.

    3. What are your past experiences with procrastination?

Procrastination as in case (B) is often fed by a history of emotional, mental and physical trauma in one’s early life. Almost everyone I know whether they wish to admit it or not has experienced some trauma. Hence some degree of procrastination lives in everyone. Those individuals who wind up seeking help often have been so paralyzed by fears of living a full life (also a definition of procrastination in case (B)) that they cannot function well or at all. Yes, many individuals, you could say have this problem.

    4. Should procrastination be taken lightly (ignored)? Why or why not?

In case (A) it is important for the powers that be attempt to understand why an individual might not want to do what is expected of them. It is through understanding and empathy for that individual’s desires that one can support and nurture that individual’s self esteem and self confidence. Simply forcing someone to do something that they really don’t want to do in their hearts is what I call “trauma”. It only destroys the spirit and the will to live.

In case (B) it is useful for the individual themselves to get up the courage to face their own internal fears and do something about them. Not doing so will only leave them feeling powerless and like a victim. Victims tend then only to blame others for their situation and this of course helps no one, especially not the victim. The process I developed called MRP helps individuals reclaim their power and mastery over their own life thus freeing them and helping them to unleash their immense creative potential once and for all.

    5. What would you advise a client to do who suffers from “severe” procrastination?

As I said above if they are stuck in case (B) which is the most common situation I see it becomes the individual’s responsibility to decide for themselves whether they want to go on living this way. No one else could nor should attempt to impose on that individual what they should do about it. Doing so might simply unleash a great deal of resistance in their direction. Having said that it becomes essential that the individual with the problem realize that if they choose to submit to the procrastination problem they will have no one but themselves to blame for the ultimate consequences to them and their life.

    6. From past clients (or any other experiences), what is the likelihood of overcoming procrastination? Explain.

You see it’s not that there aren’t effective methods of overcoming procrastination, there are, and MRP is one if them in my view. In the end overcoming it is the result of the individual’s heartfelt desire and intent not to be a victim of procrastination and to seek out the appropriate assistance.

    7. What would you suggest a client, who has recently overcome procrastination, do to prevent it?

Well in my view that question is a bit of an oxymoron because if they “have” overcome it then it should be gone and no longer need to prevent it, thus all they have to do is go in living their life as they desire. The fact that that you asked the question in that way speaks to the matter that many approaches to addressing procrastination don’t work, they only appear to work in the short term. So to answer your question most directly I would suggest that the individual seek out an approach that will help them rid themselves of it for good so they don’t have to have it “sitting on their shoulder” waiting for it to attack again.

    Pocket Pets and Sugar Gliders

    July 11th, 2008

Pets offer a wonderful companionship. This can only be achieved if one goes for the right pet that they are able to handle easily. But you have to first understand what type of pet you really need. Before you set off to purchase that sugar glider, think of what you need to put in place to cater for it for a long time, since sugar gliders have a lifespan of approximately fifteen years. Just as much as man is a social being, so is the sugar glider. It thus follows that you better have two to drive away loneliness in the other. This is one of the most sensitive needs for pocket pets and sugar gliders. Be there to promote bonding between them as well as their well-being.

It would help to realize that sugar gliders, like human babies, are just as vulnerable and, accordingly, great care needs to be taken with them. But remember to allow your pockets pets and sugar gliders enough sleep and play time. It is important to ensure your sugar gliders and pocket pets have comfort, accompanied by a healthy diet. Comfort is easily achieved by construction of spacious cages where the gliders will do what they know best - glide about. The cage must also prevent the sugar gliders from hazardous environments while gliding about.

Sugar gliders need a special diet accompanied by attention, comfort and show of trust between you and them. Prepare their meals in the best way possible and you will definitely meet all measures of comfort required.

Sugar gliders, like other animals, are occasionally prone to sickness and attacks by fleas. Always keep in touch with your specialized vet for their medication. Save this by constantly checking up on your sugar glider and monitoring its health. Just like other tamed animals, sugar gilders need you to be with them to add to their happiness and well-being.

Viagra: A Wonder Drug with Multi-Benefits

    July 9th, 2008

With the men folk absorbed in talks of spicing up their sex life with Viagra, the other benefits of Viagra to the human body take a backseat. People’s view of Viagra is straitjacketed. They consider it just as an oral pill that can overcome ED, with some side effects. But apart from sizzling up your sex life and taking care of your erectile dysfunction, it has other benefiting effects on your body.

Reports coming from researchers in different areas of health at various universities have come up with exciting facts about Viagra. Researchers in Saarland University found out that Viagra can easily reduce the symptoms of Raynaud’s phenomenon, a circulatory disorder. 16 patients who didn’t respond to the standard medicaments of Raynaud’s phenomenon were asked to take either Viagra or Placebo for four weeks and then switched to the opposite drug for another four weeks.

The results strongly favored Viagra as the better treatment. Patients who took Viagra had an average of 35 Raynaud’s attacks as compared to the average of 52 attacks among patients who took placebo. Even the duration of the attacks differed. Patients taking Viagra had an average of 581 minutes of attack while the attacks lasted for 1046 minutes in the patients taking placebo.

Another research team has published a report that Viagra can help patients with a fatal pulmonary arterial hypertension that is affecting around 100,000 people the world over. According to Ian Adatia, Ch.B. M.B, associate professor of pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco Children’s Hospital, children with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) walk farther and breathe easier when they take Viagra over the course of a year. 14 children with PAH, who were given Viagra for a period of one year could increase their six minutes walking time by more than 500 feet.

Viagra could come to the aid of mountaineers, who frequently face the wrath of deadly cardiovascular effects at high altitudes. Proper use of Viagra helps in reducing the high blood pressure to a great extent and facilitates the easy transportation of oxygen in the blood. It can enhance the ability to exercise at high altitudes too. Viagra can also improve circulation in the lungs. In fact mountaineers have many reasons to benefit from Viagra.

A finding of the Medicine Society of North America says that it can help in curing benign prostrate hyperplasia (BPH). Kevin V. McVary, M.D., professor of urology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, who led the study, said patients that were given Viagra showed encouraging signs of improvement in their erectile problems. The researchers also noticed a concomitant decrease in both the irritative and obstructive symptoms of BPH too.

A statement of researchers in John Hopkins University claims that fifty percent of the hormonal stress on the heart can be reduced with the use of this oral tablet. A test conducted on pregnant rats at the Vermont College of Medicine suggests that Viagra aid maternal uterine vascular adaptation and fetal health in hypertensive pregnancy.

All these reports and findings go on to prove that Viagra is not just about getting an erection, it could prove to be beneficial in other matters of health too.

In Telecommunications It Pays to See the Big Picture

    July 6th, 2008

We all know that telecommunications is an area that sees one technology advance after another, in quick fire succession.

What, at times, is not so apparent are the implications of these technology advances, particularly when it comes to telecommunications costs.

Just now, there is a virtual revolution taking place in telecommunications, all summed up in one term convergence. Convergence is a term we read a lot about, but just what does it mean?

    Overview of convergence

Probably the best way of understanding convergence is to take an example with which we are all familiar. We have all lived at some time or another in homes that rely on either gas or electricity for heating and cooking. We know that you can’t take a gas oven and plug it into an electrical power point and expect it to work, and vice versa. However, in the world of telecommunications, thanks to the magic of convergence, you can do the equivalent. If you use your mobile phone to download images from the Internet, this is convergence. Using your landline to make a voice phone call and download from the Internet simultaneously is nother example of convergence. The list goes on.

Mobile phones and landlines are examples of two different networks, the mobile network and the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

Then there is a third kind of network, usually referred to as a data network. This is the sort of network that allows an organisation to send data between its various branches. Data can be any sort of digitised material, such as the output from a financial accounting system. The PSTN network has been around for a very long time now and data networks have also existed in commercial organisations for quite some time. The mobile network is relatively more recent.

Until quite recently, organisations used the three networks independently of each other. The view was taken that each had its own job to do. So no one worried about the cost of maintaining three different networks. This was taken as an inevitable part of business. The result was that when managers in organisations wanted to review their telecommunications costs, they tended to concentrate only on call charges the rates they had to pay carriers to make fixed line and mobile calls.

Reviewing call charges is still a valid and necessary exercise but, as a result of convergence, there are many other aspects to consider when reviewing telecommunications costs. Convergence has resulted in choices which in turn means that decisions have to be made. Going back to our original example, if you have an oven which can function by being plugged into either your gas lines or your electrical circuits, you can now choose whether you want just gas lines or electrical circuits or both. If both offer the same utility in terms of getting your oven to work, it becomes a matter of cost. Why pay for both gas lines or electrical circuits if just one will do the job? And if, say, gas lines are much cheaper than electrical circuits, why pay the extra for electricity?

Relating this back to the three types of telecommunications networks, we have now reached the stage where each of the networks can support other network functions. Some people go so far as to say that, within the next twenty years, the three networks as we currently know them will vanish, to be replaced by a single network capable of supporting voice, mobile and data telephony.

While we may not quite have reached that stage, we have certainly reached the stage where voice telephony is capable of being carried on a data network, commonly referred to as IP telephony. We can also say that in theory, voice over data networks could offer a potential 90 per cent reduction in phone costs.

The catch is that things are not quite that straightforward. Businesses may have to spend money on infrastructure and the like to achieve IP telephony and the issue then becomes whether this form of telephony is cost-effective. So we come right back to the assessment of costs as a key determinant in assessing the usefulness of technology advances in telecommunications.

Assessing the costs of implementation of new technology

So what sorts of factors should businesses take into account in assessing the implementation of new technology?

It is a given that the technology should help the bottom line in some measurable way. We need ways to examine and evaluate new technologies to see whether they add value. There are really only six factors which need to be taken into account:

    1 cost reduction

    2 increased revenue

    3 increased efficiency

    4 customer satisfaction improvement

    5 access to new markets

6 the provision of a new service.

Let’s look briefly at each of these factors.

First, cost reduction: the technology may enable the cost of making phone calls to be reduced. In simple terms, IP telephony makes use of an organisation’s own data network to carry calls. Consequently, the organisation does not have to pay to use a carrier’s network leading to the possibility of savings of up to 90 per cent.

However, as against this, we have to offset a number of other factors. It may, for example, be necessary to upgrade the data network which will involve additional cost. Moving the voice telephony to a data network can involve management issues. Extra IT staff capacity may be needed to cope with this. There may be training and related issues.

Second, an assessment needs to be made whether the new technology may result in additional revenue for the business. For example, a web-based company may see the opportunity to sell more product. However, this may mean incurring more costs in other areas.

Third, a new technology may enable new levels of efficiency to be achieved. These efficiencies will need to be carefully assessed to determine whether they add real value.

Fourth, the adoption of a new technology may lead to increased customer satisfaction. The issue here will be whether this can be translated into revenue equivalent.

Fifth and sixth, a new technology may enable access to new markets or the provision by the business of a new service, leading to improvements to the bottom line.

By now it should be apparent that new technologies can have both positive and negative impacts on the bottom line of a business.

However, no business can afford to ignore new technologies for that reason. In order to be able to maintain a competitive edge, businesses need the ability to swiftly and efficiently develop a business case analysis of likely technologies as they emerge, so that the appropriate decisions can be made. If businesses are not able to do this, they may find themselves at a disadvantage as their competitors take up the benefits which new technologies can offer.

In looking at the six factors above, it can be seen that the first factor is crucial. Businesses should at all times have up-to-date information on the costs of their current networks. Although calculating this may be seen as a complex process, there are really only four main factors to be taken into account:

1 the network cost: this is the recurring costs billed monthly by a carrier made up essentially of call charges and the costs of renting various types of lines and services

2 equipment costs: these are generally one-time costs related to the acquisition of equipment such as PABXs and routers

3 operational costs: these are the costs involved in supporting ongoing adds, moves and changes and will generally consist of support
    staff costs

4 administrative costs: there are costs involved in the monthly processing of invoices and the ongoing monitoring of network performance.

This may involve the same staff as in operational costs or different staff.

Associated with all of the above will be a range of other factors including training and technical support and the purchase of software upgrades.

This all becomes the total cost of ownership of telecommunications, which is the basic building block for development of a business case analysis for new technologies as they emerge. This is the ‘big picture’ for telecommunications and, clearly, call charges are only a small part of the big picture. Sound business decisions are based on careful evaluation in the light of available information. If you know the total cost of ownership of your current telecommunications set-up, you will be in the best possible position to make the appropriate decisions on the adoption of new technology.

Are You Making This Cardio Mistake?

    July 3rd, 2008

Are you exercising for long periods of time to try to burn fat? If you’re like most people you probably are, but there is a better way. It’s called “high intensity interval training” (HIIT) and lately it has started to become pretty famous for its obvious health benefits.

–So What Exactly Are The Benefits?

    1. Major Increase in Fat Loss. In a study done by Tremblay et al, two groups were assigned different training regimines. Group A performed the regular moderate intensity cardio (like jogging or bicycling) for 20 weeks and Group B performed a HIIT routine for 15 weeks. In the end the results of each group were recorded. Group B lost nine times more fat than Group A and in 5 weeks less (1)!

    2. Increased Lactic Acid Threshold. Lactic acid is that burning sensation you feel when you work a muscle really hard. You’re lactic acid threshold is how fast your body can remove the lactic acid in your muscles. The higher the lactic acid threshold, the harder you can work your muscles before they get tired.

    3. Increased peak power, or the maximum amount of energy available for a sustained period of time (2)(3)(4).

    4. Increased VO2 peak or ability to utilize oxygen (2).

    5. Shorter Workouts. I don’t know about you, but would you rather spend 30 minutes to an hour jogging along the road, or crank it up a notch and just spend 4-8 minutes performing sprints?

–So Why Does This Burn more Fat than just Jogging?

Although HIIT is much shorter than a normal “run for 30 minutes” workout, it burns more fat. To put it simply, after your HIIT training session is over with your metabolism explodes and tons of calories are being burned. So essentially with HIIT training, you burn most of the fat after your training session.

–So How Exactly Do I Perform This?

Simply put, HIIT is based around this concept: Go fast then go slow. Repeat. You can perform HIIT routines on pretty much any machine you want like a treadmill, elliptical machine, cycling machine, or apply it to almost any sport (swimming, cycling, running). Try to keep the bursts of speed at around 90%-100% of max effort.

Here is a sample HIIT routine:

    Sprint 20 Seconds
    Rest 10 Seconds
    Repeat 4-8 Times

    Or

    Sprint 15 Seconds
    Rest 5 Seconds
    Repeat 4-6 Times

These are just samples, you can change it however you want (you could even use distance instead of time), but remember, HIIT is based around the concept of fast bursts of work. Also, to continually challenge yourself you should add to how many times you repeat the cycle. Say for instance day one you repeat the sprint/rest cycle 8 times, well the next time you should shoot for 9 times. Also remember the amount of time you sprint, rest, and the amount of times you repeat the cycle should depend upon your athletic ability.

If you havn’t trained at a high intensity since your high school gym days, take it slow at first. If you have to start at 80% intensity and perform less cycles that’s O.K. too. Everyone has to start somewhere. You may also want to check with your doctor before performing a routine like this as it is very physically demanding.

The True Purpose of a Tips Booklet

    July 3rd, 2008

“My topic doesn’t fit into a how-to tips format.”

That comment shows up periodically, and did again this week.
Even when a person has written a novel, there are ways to create a tips booklet that can help market that novel plus become its own new source of revenue. THOSE are the purposes of a booklet.

A booklet is a way for the reader to test out the information of the author, to see if it’s something that leads to wanting more of what the author’s got. It’s a way to gently approach a topic that may be otherwise overwhelming or brand new. It’s one format of the material, which can then be embellished, expanded, or otherwise modified by the author.

A booklet is NOT the consummate reference on a given topic. A tips booklet, in particular, is NOT a narrative philosophical statement or observation of something. It’s a tips booklet, with how-to’s in it.

Let’s say you wrote a novel, set on a rural farm in midwest America, and you want to sell lots of copies of that novel, which common wisdom says is a challenge to do. One way to do it could be by writing a tips booklet about ways (tips!) to live a happy, fulfilling, and interesting life in rural America, or on a farm. That would certainly give the reader of your book more of a connection to what your book is about, wouldn’t it, especially when you include some specific invitation that looks something like “for more about living on a farm in midwest America, you’ll enjoy reading our book, “Life in a Corn Field.”

Or you are interested in featuring the accomplishments of some noteable people of current or historical times. Instead of a treatise about them, it could be very useful to create a tips booklet that includes guidance based on what those people did to accomplish what they accomplished, for others to mirror in their own lives.

Once in a rare while there is a topic that simply does not lend itself to a tips booklet. It’s usually something in science or math and focused on theory. It’s at that moment you’ll see a glaze come onto my face. Otherwise, let’s talk about what your tips booklet is and can be.

    EzineArticles Expert Author Paulette Ensign

Paulette Ensign has sold well over a million copies of her own tips booklet, “110 Ideas for Organizing Your Business Life,” in four languages and various formats without spending a penny on advertising.
